About the data

Trano is an independent live tracker for Indian Railways trains — it is not run by Indian Railways or IRCTC. This page explains where the numbers come from and how they are worked out, so you can judge how much to trust them.

Where the data comes from

Live train positions and delays come from Indian Railways' public live-position feed. Routes, stops and scheduled arrival and departure times come from the published Indian Railways timetable. We combine the two so a train page shows both its schedule and how it is actually running.

How punctuality is computed

On-time percentage and delay figures are calculated from a train's recent actual run history, not from its scheduled timings. For a set of recent runs we look at how each one arrived at each stop and report the share that were on time along with the average and median delay per stop. Because these are drawn from a limited window of recent runs, a single very late or cancelled run can move the numbers, and a train with few recorded runs has a less reliable figure.

Suburban EMU and MEMU local services have no live GPS feed. For those trains we can show the timetable and punctuality history, but not a live position on the map.

How often it updates

Live positions refresh continuously while a train is running, roughly every 15 seconds. Run history and punctuality build up over time as new runs complete. All times are shown in Indian Standard Time (IST, UTC+5:30).

What this is not

Trano is not an official IRCTC service. It does not handle bookings, fares, seat availability or PNR status. Treat everything here as a planning reference and confirm with IRCTC or NTES before you travel.
